Birthday boy

Today, Rueben turned three. I can't hardly believe that it was three years ago on a cold snowy Fort st John afternoon that Rueben joined our family. Hard to believe we almost lost him that day. Andrea stopped by to drop off a present for him. We had stuck some candles into cinnamon buns and sang happy birthday. When she left, he said "thanks for coming to my birthday party!". What a sweet guy! My big guy.

Snowboarding

Yesterday, I woke up to 6 inches of freshly fallen snow. My sister and cousins had made plans to go snowboarding so at 7:45 am, I was outside shoveling the sidewalk and driveway and at 8:30, the boys and I were on our way to meet up at my parents condo.

It was a blustery morning but cleared up beautifully for our 1pm lesson. My feet were killing me after the lesson and I was ready to call it a day but Anita convinced me to switch boots with Andrea (whose boots were too loose) and the problem was fixed! My boots were too small! So I need to go get some new ones. And apparently need to wax my board as well!

I'm glad I went, would like to go again. Reminded me how much fun it is to fly down a mountain. It's not about confidence so much as it is about commiting. "Confidence: the feeling you have before you fully realize the consequences of the situation"

Reliving my youth

I'm currently watching Degrassi Jr High. What a blast from the past this is!

Watch out!

Yesterday, I signed up with weight watchers online. It was time.

What I left behind

Usually when I go to a store like Walmart I end up spending way too much money on a bunch of stuff we really don't need. I'm aware that I have impulse buy tendencies and try very hard to keep a hold on it. I'm pleased with myself and with the fact that yesterday I didn't purchase anything that wasn't on my carefuly crafted list!

I'm also pleased with the fact that both boys were sleeping by 8:15 last night...in their own beds! A huge accomplishment! I did wake up to find them both snuggled up to me, but I'm glad we're finally making progress on the bedtime.

Monday, tuesday, wednesday...

Monday ended with two hours of dance class: Tap and ballet. This years tap routine is really challenging me. I'm excited and a little bit afraid for recital this year!

Tuesday, I vaccumed the bedrooms. I really noticed a HUGE difference when I woke up this morning. I wasn't as stuffed up as I usually am in the mornings. Tuesday night, Ethan thrived at Beavers. He has been so reluctant to participate these past few weeks, so lastnight Rueben stayed home with grandpa. Ethan and I went just the two of us and what a huge difference in his attitude. We ended the night out on the school field looking at Jupiter and the almost fullmoon rising.

You drive me crazy?

We spent yesterday morning in the rain going from door to door collecting bottles for Ethans Beaver scout colony. Andrea and her friend Anita accompanied us and kept Rueben company in the truck. It was nice to be out in the fresh air getting some exercise and raising some funds. Too bad it was raining.

I stayed up way too late lastnight and when the boys woke me up at 7:30 this morning asking, no whinning for pancakes, I knew running was out of the question. I'll try for tonight.

A little sunshine on a dreary grey day.

I bought myself 25 golden yellow tulips today! They are lovely and wonderful and even Rueben said "your flowers are bootiful". That made me smile more than the flowers.

Christmas is being packed up. We undid the tree tonight, much to Ethan's dismay. My house still looks like a bomb went off but at least I know I have clean carpets and pretty flowers.

Feel the burn!

No I wasn't exercising. I was cooking a fancy pants dinner for myself and accidentally picked up the 'fresh out of the oven' pan and burnt both hands. It took 5 hours, a piece of aloe and lots of cold water for the pain to subside. And finally, when it didn't hurt to hold my fork, Rueben accidentally knocked my plate off my lap and Lilly swooped in to eat my dinner off the floor. So sad.

So, tonight we ordered in sushi and now with boys long ago tucked in, I'm settled on the couch watching Degrassi Jr high on netflix. This is bringing back memories!

Dinningroom dash

I spent this morning racing cars around the dinningroom table with Rueben. And when I say cars, I mean our little red IKEA chairs. What a fun way to get a little bit of exercise! It was fun to giggle with him.

And while down at that level I got an opportunity to see how marked up and scuffed our baseboard mouldings were! So then I spent the next hour cleaning the diningroom mouldings. It looks so much cleaner now! I would have carried on with the whole house but my last magic eraser was disintegrating in my hands so I'll save the rest for another day!

New year, new blog.

Kate Whitehouse Watt
This year I will:

Live in a diaper free house.
Register for lyrical with a recital number.
Read 24 books.
Limit myself to 2 starbucks/week.
Make 5 new friends or reconnect with 5 old ones.
Not eat past 9pm.
Be in bed by 12:30.
Run every Sunday morning.

I will do something deliberate each day. Something that gets me off the couch. Something that lifts my spirit. Something that makes me laugh, or cry. Something that engages me, or challenges me or scares me! Something that requires thought and intent. Something that inspires me. If I can do this one thing... Then I will be living quality in the now.
